Best Towns 2008: Oakland!

Gondolas-on-lake_50q

Outside Magazine just named Oakland, CA one of its 20 Best Towns 2008, based on its progressive environmental policies. The article focuses on recent efforts to bring housing and businesses downtown - doesn't mention, oddly, our vast open spaces for hiking and biking, nor does it mention our 100-year sustainability plan and the huge solar projects going up on rooftops all over.

It does mention our fabulous weather!

Since I live here, I know our problems intimately, and they worry me (except when I decide not to let anything worry me). This mention from a magazine devoted to outdoor adventure reminds me that we possess great resources of climate, landscape, people and infrastructure.

Thanks to Alison for the tip.

Whenever it comes up, my Mom always says Oakland has the BEST weather. :) We do miss the redwoods, and the wonderful museums a big city has. And our friends, of course.
