Here's an extremely simple thing you can do: wear an Israel / Palestine Lapel Pin from SupportSanity.org.
The site declares:
As extremists on all sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict try to wreck attempts at a fair solution – including the draft permanent status agreement known as the Geneva Accord – one of the most basic and important steps that each of us can take is to publicly affirm the fundamental humanity of both sides – both as an end in itself and as the only basis for a viable alternative to the current situation.
...
To us this symbol represents the only solution that makes sense – two equally secure, viable and sovereign states for two equally worthy peoples. For only with symmetry can there be justice. And only with justice can there be peace. And only with peace can there be the life that the mainstream on both sides longs for.We think it's "What the Answer Looks Like".
By creating a "virtuous cycle" (or "snowball effect") of display and engagement, in which the display of the symbol engages others to also display it, we seek to shape American public opinion and, through that, U.S. foreign policy.
The centerpiece of the Support Sanity campaign is an attractive and inexpensive lapel pin that we are encouraging supporters of a just peace to wear as part of their everyday attire.
The Dove knows that some will say: what good will lapel pins do when we are suffering in extremis?
But the Dove believes that such an action is part of the larger, building tide that will change events very rapidly. When public opinion can no longer accept the mess as it is, leaders will respond.
It's true that the Dove has said elsewhere that a one state solution is the best answer, but I don't quibble over details. This movement's heart is in the right place.
Thanks to Lawrence of Cyberia for the tip.
