I feel certain that rising oil prices will make agriculture a growth industry in the United States in coming decades, reversing a trend that must go back 100 years. Importing cheap agricultural goods with limited shelf lives just doesn't make sense if oil goes much higher. How U.S. agriculture will adjust to exorbitant fuel costs is another fascinating question.

Isn't the argument from the organic movement that organic farming methods use less petrochemicals?

Whatever happens, I feel sure we are in for a period of turbulent change.
