One of my favorite snacks is the pickled daikon you show in the center of the bottom photo. Sometimes I just munch on a piece, or sometimes I use it as a salad topping alongside strawberries, which strike me as a complimentary flavor.

Alison got me to go inside our town's most famous Korean market - I'd been to the housewares department, but nothing else. We investigated the dried beans and rices, the kimchee, and all kinds of produce and processed foods utterly new to me. OK I'd eaten dried anchovies in a salad at a Korean picnic - loved 'em.

Because of Alison, I now know that kimchee (Korean pickle) could be made of only green onions, as well as the more common Napa cabbage.
