I was nosing around locavore and frugal food links when I stumbled upon Joanna Macy's vision for planetary change:
Joanna Macy | The Great Turning.
Whether or not it is recognized by corporate-controlled media, the Great Turning is a reality. Although we cannot know yet if it will take hold in time for humans and other complex life forms to survive, we can know that it is under way. And it is gaining momentum, through the actions of countless individuals and groups around the world. To see this as the larger context of our lives clears our vision and summons our courage.
It sounds nuts but it's also utterly possible. Macy lives in my bio region and knows people I know. Why haven't I seen this before? The Dove needs to spend some time reading this material.
I don't think the idea of a Turning sounds nuts at all. I view the Turning in terms of technological as well as political progress, but I believe that we have risen to meet tougher challenges in the past. The original Babylons salted up their land through primitive irrigation, but Civilization endures.
